History
1979Kenzo Tsujimoto founded I.R.M. Corporation in Matsubara, Osaka, focused on developing and selling electronic game machines.
1981I.R.M. and its subsidiary, Japan Capsule Computers Co., Ltd., were renamed Sanbi Co., Ltd.
1983Kenzo Tsujimoto established Capcom Co., Ltd. in Hirano, Osaka, to handle software sales. The name "Capcom" is an abbreviation of "CAPsule COMputer."
1984Released its first arcade video game, "Vulgus."
1985Released its first home video game, "1942" for the NES, and established CAPCOM U.S.A., INC.
1987Launched the "Street Fighter" and "Mega Man" franchises.
1989Capcom Co., Ltd. merged with Sanbi Co., Ltd., forming the current Japanese branch.
1996Debuted the "Resident Evil" series, establishing the "survival horror" genre.
2004The original "Monster Hunter" launched in Japan.
2017The proprietary RE Engine debuted with "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard."
2018"Monster Hunter: World" became a global phenomenon and Capcom's best-selling game.
