Andrew Shapira is an American computer scientist who co-authored Avatar, an early graphics-based multi-user role-playing computer game on the University of Illinois' PLATO system in the late 1970s. He developed this game alongside Bruce Maggs and David Sides.

1976-1977Began development of Avatar on the University of Illinois PLATO system with Bruce Maggs.
1979Released the first version of Avatar.
1985Received a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
