Spooky

A sadly unfinished game from Johan Forslöf and Paul Helman with sound by Cadaver. It has sprites and graphics that look so spooky and good that many have wondered if it was on a C64 or an Amiga. The demo features a main character reminiscent of Braid, with a hi-res overlay that looks impressive and animates smoothly. Although the backgrounds give the impression of being done in extended background mode, they are actually standard multi-colour hi-res (Johan has plans to implement ECM later). The atmosphere is wonderfully immersive, with a few enemies to shoot along the way. At this stage, there isn't much to do beyond exploring the multi-directional scrolling areas of the castle environment, but the demo offers a promising glimpse of what could evolve into an outstanding game.
