ROM Check Fail
ROM CHECK FAIL is the equivalent of WarioWare: Smooth Moves during a bad acid trip. The game mimics a MAME environment with classic games such as Defender, Gauntlet, The Legend of Zelda, QIX, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Pang, Spy Hunter and more, in an ultimate mash-up. Rather than emulating the games, the roms fail and distort the entire gameplay. Every five seconds, the main character, enemies, environment and background music are replaced with a random game. At one moment you're fighting Goombas with the Defender jet and The New Zealand Story music playing in the background, in another you are slashing your way through QIX with Link. The environment adapts to the new level graphics, but keeps its design. The player and both the enemies are however limited to the original controls. Zelda's top-down gameplay allows Link to travel through all the screen, but upon switching to Mario he will drop down immediately. The poor Space Invaders ship can only move left or right. The amount of defeated enemies is maintained and that way the player has to complete a set number of levels. After each successful round, an extra life is awarded.
