Extra Bases
Extra Bases was produced by Midway Manufacturing Co. in 1980. Extra Bases is a baseball arcade video game played with a button and a trackball, either against the machine or another player. Each coin entered into the machine allowed you to play a single innings consisting of one turn at the bat, and another in the field. As the batter, you control when you swing at the ball, after it is pitched towards you, using the button. If you miss a correctly pitched ball completely, you are given a strike and after three strikes your player is out. If you do connect with the ball, then it will speed away based on the angle of your bat when you hit. If this is outside the diamond, then the ball is a foul and not counted. Otherwise, your player immediately starts running around the diamond as the opponent scrambles for the ball. If the ball is thrown to a base before a running player can arrive, then the player is out. Any player that completes a full circuit of the diamond receives a point for a home run. Once three players are out, the teams swap places. As the pitcher, you can use the button to start the pitch and the trackball to modify the path of the ball mid-flight before the batter hits it. The fielders can be directed to chase any hit balls by using the track ball. There are two versions of the game. One is a standard upright cabinet, but there is also a cocktail two player version where the display flips when it is the other player's turn.
