Kakao Games (CEO Han Sang-woo) announced on the 29th that the new expansion for the action RPG 'Path of Exile 2', developed by Grinding Gear Games (Game Director Jonathan Rogers), titled 'Return of the Ancients', will be released on the 30th.
This expansion features a variety of updates, including a complete overhaul of the endgame system, the addition of the new league 'Runes of Aldur', the reveal of the Ascendancy classes 'Spirit Walker' and 'Martial Artist', and the introduction of a challenge system along with various quality-of-life improvements.
First, new storylines will be added to endgame Atlas content such as 'Delirium' and 'Ritual'. Players will be able to move beyond repetitive combat-focused gameplay to explore ancient structures within massive fortresses, take on exclusive bosses, and enjoy a more immersive gaming experience.
Alongside this, the new league content 'Runes of Aldur' will be introduced. 'Runes of Aldur' tells the story of rescuing a blacksmith attempting to revive ancient rune-crafting techniques. Players can explore mysterious ruins and defeat monsters that have become more powerful through ancient rune combinations to earn high-tier rewards.
New Ascendancy classes, 'Spirit Walker' and 'Martial Artist', are also being added. 'Spirit Walker' is an Ascendancy class for the Huntress that utilizes the spirits of the 'Stag', 'Owl', and 'Bear' to employ various combat styles, including offense, defense, and summoning. The 'Martial Artist' is an Ascendancy class for the Monk, characterized by its ability to create illusions and engage in unique melee combat.
Various new systems to enhance player convenience are also being introduced. First, a 'Challenge System' will be launched, allowing players to complete various challenges and earn item rewards to customize their characters. Additionally, a 'Build Planner System' will be added, enabling players to follow the skill and equipment setups of other users in-game, and a real-time item price check feature will be implemented to improve convenience.
Meanwhile, a free-to-play event for 'Path of Exile 2' will be held from the update on May 30th until 5:00 AM on June 2nd.
'Path of Exile 2' is currently in development with a target for an official release within the year. The 'Return of the Ancients' expansion will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox starting May 30th (KST).
