SOOP (respectively CEO Choi Young-woo and Lee Min-won) will hold the second week of the round of 16 of ‘Google Play ASL Season 21’ starting from Monday the 20th. ASL is an e-sports league run by Blizzard Entertainment's sci-fi RTS game ‘StarCraft®: Remastered’ and is a long-running league that celebrates its 11th anniversary this year. Following last season, this season Google Play participated as an official sponsor and has continued to be a hot topic since the opening of each game.
Previously, in the first week of the round of 16, which began on Monday the 13th, a total of four players confirmed their advancement to the quarterfinals. In Group A, ‘defending champion’ Park Sang-hyun (Z) showed his strength by taking first place in the group, while Yoon Soo-cheol (P) caused an upset and entered the quarterfinals for the first time in his career. In Group B, Jang Yun-cheol (P) and Jo Il-jang (Z) secured tickets to the finals with solid performances.
Group C, which will be held on the 20th (Monday) at 7 PM, is considered the biggest battle in the round of 16. With Kim Taek-yong (P), Kim Tae-young (T), Jaedong (Z), and Lee Young-ho (T) in one group, the ‘Lee Ssang-rok’, a match between Jaedong and Lee Young-ho, has been held again after about 8 years, and the attention of fans around the world is focused on the rivalry that symbolized an era in StarCraft history.
Then, the Group D match will be held on Tuesday, April 21st. As the '4 Terran' group consists of Hwang Byeong-young (T), Shin Sang-moon (T), Kim Ji-seong (T), and Lee Jae-ho (T), it is expected that there will be a fierce psychological battle and sword-fighting battle where the winner will be decided in build selection and control.
The round of 16 matches will use ‘Polestar’ as the map for the first and second matches, and the winner’s match, loser’s match, and final match will be played as a best-of-three series through a map ban. However, the ‘Knockout’ map is excluded from the ban.
All matches will be held with spectators at ‘Freak Up Studio’ in Daechi-dong, Seoul. On-site viewing tickets can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis through the ticket link every Thursday from 5 p.m. Meanwhile, detailed information, including live broadcasts and replays of the competition, and match prediction events, can be found on the SOOP ASL official broadcasting station and e-sports page.
