989 Studios was a division of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) that developed games for PlayStation consoles and Windows personal computers. The studio was known for developing popular franchises such as Twisted Metal and various sports titles.
History
1995The video game business of Sony Imagesoft merged with the product development branch of SCEA, becoming Sony Interactive Studios America (SISA).
1998SISA was spun off from SCEA and renamed 989 Studios.
2000989 Studios was merged back into SCEA as a first-party development group to prepare for the PlayStation 2. The '989 Sports' brand continued until 2005.
