1990American Video Entertainment (AVE) was founded in San Jose, California, by Phil Mikkelson, Fred Hoot, and Richard Frick, as a subsidiary of Macronix.

1991AVE filed an antitrust lawsuit against Nintendo of America and its parent company, Nintendo, alleging an illegal monopoly.

1992AVE went out of business after releasing 18 games.
