New information regarding 'RPG Maker U2U', the latest version of the game development tool series RPG Maker currently being developed by Gotcha Gotcha Games, was released today (the 21st).
Through its official X account, Gotcha Gotcha Games confirmed the title of the new project as 'RPG Maker U2U' and introduced the meaning behind the name along with various new features.
Regarding the new title 'U2U', Gotcha Gotcha Games explained that it stands for "Up to you." They added, "We chose this name with the hope that users will utilize RPG Maker freely and create games that align with their own unique imagination and creative style."

The introduction of the latest features followed. Gotcha Gotcha Games unveiled 'P2D (Perspective 2D)', a new expression technique reminiscent of HD-2D, describing it as "a technology that vividly implements 2D maps within a three-dimensional space." This enables not only the expression of 3D depth, which was difficult to achieve in previous RPG Maker versions, but also richer visual presentations using advanced lighting effects.
The biggest feature of the RPG Maker series is that games can be created easily without any coding knowledge. Despite the technical advancements such as the introduction of P2D, 'RPG Maker U2U' maintains this core philosophy. It inherits the production methods of previous 2D RPG Makers to provide an intuitive user experience; users can create everything from floor tiles to buildings from scratch, or easily construct maps using presets and block combination features.

Another key feature is the ability to reuse existing RPG Maker assets. For users who have been creating games with previous RPG Maker versions, the prospect of abandoning their existing work to start over can be a significant burden, no matter how excellent the new tool's features are. Fortunately, 'RPG Maker U2U' alleviates these concerns.
Gotcha Gotcha Games expressed confidence, stating, "Not only official assets, but also the precious 2D assets that users have collected or created themselves over a long time can be reused as decorative elements after some minor adjustments. You will be amazed to see how existing map tiles and characters are expressed with a completely new feel within an environment enhanced by dynamic lighting and 3D spatial depth."
The release date for 'RPG Maker U2U', which is being developed based on the Unity engine, has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, 'RPG Maker U2U' is scheduled to be exhibited at BitSummit, held from May 22nd to 24th, to greet visitors.
